Sonam Kapoor made her debut in Saawariya in 2007. With her launch being one of the most anticipated launches of that time, there were a lot of expectations from Sonam. Even though the movie failed to do well at the box office, she got mixed to good reviews for her performance. While some said she was an average actor, the others said that the role didn't give her enough scope to perform.

It was 2 years later when Sonam appeared on screen again with Delhi 6. Unlike Saawariya, her performance was thoroughly praised in this movie. After that, she acted in a string of movies. I Hate Luv Storys was her first box office success followed by Aisha which performed decently well.

Aisha introduced us to the fashionista in Sonam! Her sense of style garnered a lot of praise to the extent of some people terming her to be more of a fashion icon than an actor! However, this did not deter the actress. She enjoys being called a fashion icon and at the same time remains focused on delivering her best at the movies!

The last few years proved to be dull for her acting career with a series of flops like Players, Thank You and Mausam. Sonam received her fair share of criticism during that period and had almost everyone writing her off!

After keeping a low profile last year, she is back with her latest release Raanjhanaa. Her performance is being received well. Here's what a few leading critics had to say about her -

"The actor in Sonam was waiting for a role that would make the spectator sit up and notice it and the one in Raanjhanaa gives her that opportunity. The headstrong and emotional persona comes across so well in this film. This film is a huge leap frontward for Sonam as an actor." - Taran Adarsh

"..Sonam, who does some of her best work here, going smoothly from innocent to manipulative to cynical, without ever losing Zoya’s inherent vulnerability" - Rajeev Masand

"But it is to Sonam Kapoor that Raanjhanaa belongs. She delivers a rock-steady star turn, moving from innocence to cynicism, and from demure to worldly wise in a smooth arc. She does not miss a trick in conveying the emotional ups and downs of a small-town girl who grows out of her moorings over a period of nearly a decade" - Saibal Chatterjee (NDTV)

Looking at these comments we think this actress is all set to prove all those who thought acting was not her cup of tea, wrong!
