So, Pinkvilla asked her to EXCLUSIVELY share her skincare tips and it is something you should not miss out on:
Everybody desires glowing skin. Skin is the largest organ of the body. It protects the internal organs, regulates temperature, helps in the synthesis of vitamin D, helps us perceive pain & touch sensations apart from just making us look good. Skincare should always be holistic. A healthy diet, exercise, healthy lifestyle, daily meditation or pranayama coupled with skincare in the form of cleansing, moisturising and protecting from the sun, will keep your skin radiant and healthy.
People love home remedies. But not everything from the kitchen can be used on all skin types. Especially if you have sensitive or flaky skin, you must not try stuff on your own. Consult a doctor first. Besides, if home remedies do not show results within 2 or 3 weeks, you must consult a doctor and opt for proper therapy.
Here are some basic home remedies for various skin issues.
Pimples
1. Apply a paste of turmeric mixed with aloe vera. Tumeric is a good antibacterial while aloe vera is a wound healer.
2. A paste of Neem leaves will reduce pimples when applied after takin steam
3. Apply a clindamycin based gel on the pimples twice a day to dry them up.
Severe acne
1. A mixture of aloe vera, sandalwood paste & crushed orange peel will reduce the acne
2. Cleanse with Tea tree oil twice a day and apply adaferin gel on the acne at bedtime.
Cracked dry lips
1. Ghee or butter to be applied as often as possible. DO NOT lick your lips
2. Cold-pressed coconut oil is also good for cracked lips.
3. Almond paste / fresh cream or malai can also be applied thrice a day to reduce the dryness
Dry skin
1. A good almond oil massage before bath followed by a bath with lukewarm water (not hot water as hot water will further dry the skin) Apply a moisturiser after bath on a moist skin surface to trap the moisture and hydrate the skin.
2. Massage your skin with a paste of crushed almonds and fresh cream ( malai ). Rinse and immediately apply a moisturiser or even oil. Avoid using soaps as they can alter the pH of the skin and cause further dryness.
Heat boils
1. Apply neem and turmeric paste on the boils twice a day. Both are antiseptic and will kill the bacteria which cause boils.
2. Avoid using Dettol and other such antiseptics as they may lead to an irritant contact dermatitis at times.
Pigmentation
1. Mashed papaya/ curd/ lemon juice/apple juice are all mildly acidic and will exfoliate the skin and reduce pigmentation
2. Soy or crushed coffee leaves also help in pigment reduction
Tan
1. A mixture of yoghurt, turmeric and honey removes a tan easily. Curd has lactic acid which acts as a bleaching agent, turmeric and honey are antiseptic
2. Cabbage pulp with vinegar will also remove tan
Sunburn
1. Ice application, drink a lot of water, avoid sun
2. Sandalwood or coconut oil will soothe the skin. Fresh aloe vera paste will heal the wound caused due to the sunburn.
