Remember how Ekta Kapoor's 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobara' made way for 'Chennai Express' by postponing the release date to August 15? Though both the big budget movies were slated to release closer to Eid on August 8, Balaji Motion Pictures had made an announcement that they will move back, keeping in mind the business prospects of both the films. Buzz was also that Shahrukh Khan personally called Ekta's dad Jeetendra and expained that this would be best for both the films.
It so happened that Chennai Express, which released on August 9, went on to become one of the biggest blockbusters, garnering a worldwide business of more than 300 crores, while 'OUATIMB' which released on August 15, sank without a trace.
Also, news has it that there was an arrangement between Ekta and Chennai Express team that CE will be withdrawn in at least 2000 halls on August 15, to make way for OUATIMD. But this did not happen and when Ekta's mom Shobha Kapoor called up UTV to inquire about this, they apparently mentioned that this was Shahrukh Khan's decision. Also, news has it that when Jeetendra tried to call SRK, all calls went unanswered when finally someone answered to say SRK was busy in meetings.
TOI reported Ekta Kapoor as saying, "Whatever has happened is extremely disgusting. I am very angry". The tabloid also reported an unofficial statement from the CE team saying, "Chennai Express released on August 9 and it is illogical to expect that the film will be voluntarily pulled out from theatres in its first crucial week."
Well, though we're not sure who or what is fair in this situation, one thing is for sure. Here is one more relationship gone sour in the crazy world of B-town.
